Your night out at the club could result in criminal charges

You may be someone who enjoys going out on the weekends or even treating yourself to a fun evening on a weekday. Spending time with your friends may be one way you allow yourself to relax after a stressful day or week at work. Of course, it is important to remember to stay within the confines of the law while combating stress.

One activity you may enjoy is going to local Illinois bars or clubs that allow you to get a few drinks, dance or participate in other activities. While these places and activities can certainly result in a fun outing without serious consequences, you may want to remain aware that partaking in certain activities at a club could result in harm to yourself or even criminal charges.

Have fun but not too much

Numerous people enjoy going to clubs, and because of this fact, you may quickly find yourself surrounded by people you do not know. You may consider yourself a social butterfly, and interacting with new people may not bother you. However, it is still important to remember that not everyone has the best intentions.

Additionally, you may want to keep yourself in check by considering the following tips:

  • Watch your drink: While consuming alcohol may be your chosen way of relaxing for the evening, you need to keep an eye on your drink at all times. An unscrupulous person could attempt to put a substance in your drink in order to potentially harm you.
  • Monitor your drinking: While keeping an eye on your beverage is vital, monitoring your alcohol intake is important as well. If you drink too much, impair your good judgment and then decide to drive home, you could face serious consequences, such as charges for DUI.
  • Avoid using or buying drugs: Club scenes often see a considerable amount of drug use, and those drugs are often questionable. If you purchase a substance from someone at a club, you risk ingesting a drug that may be laced with an unexpected substance, which could cause you considerable harm.

Unfortunately, any of these scenarios could not only result in harm to you, but they could also lead to criminal consequences. Police could stop your vehicle if they suspect you of being under the influence, or they could find you in possession of a controlled substance.

Criminal defense

If this happens and charges result, you will undoubtedly want to find your best criminal defense options. Someone drugging your drink, forcing you to drink or use a substance against your will, or making you feel unsafe and giving you no choice but to drive while intoxicated could all play important roles in your defense if such circumstances apply.
